Horndean Infant School list of governors
Alan Williams - Chair of Governors
I was asked to become a governor when I was working as a Countryside Ranger in Horndean.  I was co-opted to the governing body as a representative of the local community.  Whilst I no longer live in Horndean I have continued to be a governor ever since and am now an LEA governor and currently chairman of the governing body.

In my spare time I enjoy geocaching (finding hidden items using a GPS) and spend a lot of time outdoors.  I also enjoy reading, watching films and gardening.
Neil Blanchard - Parent Governor

I became a governor to take more of a hands on interest in the education of my own children as well as be able to feel that I have put the skills and experiences I have gained from my working life to good use within the local community.  The experiences I have gained whilst being a governor have also helped me to develop a broader set of skills that I can also take back to my work place.

My interests include being treasurer of a local pre-school, DIY and gardening.
Gail Kearsey - Teacher Governor

I am very proud to be a governor because I believe that every child should have equal opportunity to receive the best education possible.  As a staff governor at Horndean Infant School I can provide valuable support to ensure every child at our school receives and continues to receive the best possible education.

In my spare time I enjoy wine-tasting, reading, completing crosswords, gardening and going for walks with my family.
Karen Bonnett - Parent Governor

I joined the board in November 2005.  I became governor after my two eldest sons had such a positive experience at the school.  I wanted to play a more active role in my children’s education and to provide a voice to other parents.  I am proud to be a governor in a school that ensures that every child has the opportunity and support to perform to the best of their ability.

When I have any spare time from the chaos that raising four boys entails I enjoy scrap-booking and keeping fit through aerobics, running or swimming. I also enjoy the occasional game of golf.
Amanda Hogan - Parent Governor

My 4 children attended Horndean Infants. The youngest having left last year.  They all enjoyed their school experience.  I was always impressed by the school’s commitment to involving parents in the school in as many ways as possible.  Initially I joined the PTA and when the opportunity arose it seemed a natural progression to become a parent governor.  I was keen as a parent to have an impact and understanding of what happens behind the scenes and hopefully play a small part in the school’s continued development.

Having 4 children (taxi service!) leaves very little time for much else but I do love drawing and painting.  I’m currently studying British Sign Language Level 2.
Karen Rorke - Parent Governor

My name is Karen Rorke and I am a parent governor.  I became a governor because I wanted to make a contribution to the school my children were attending.  I am a junior school teacher as well, so thought this experience would help me to contribute to the school.  Horndean Infants School is an outstanding school and I feel privileged that my children have been fortunate enough to attend such a marvellous school.

In my spare time I enjoy swimming, jogging, badminton and reading.
Don Howard - Community Governor

I have been a governor for nearly eight years.  I decided to become a governor after seeing the dedication and hard work to provide an excellent education for all children at Horndean.  I am the S.E.N. governor and chair of the curriculum committee.

I enjoy gardening, reading and D.I.Y.
Kevin Rogers - LEA Governor

I was very happy and pleased to become a governor at Horndean Infant School.  My son attended the school between 1998 and 2001.  During that period of time I saw how was hardworking, caring and forward thinking the school was.  Being able to be a part of the future of Horndean Infant School for the children of the Horndean Community is very rewarding.

I have a motorbike and enjoy going out on it, especially on a Sunday morning in the summer time.  Our family have a springer spaniel so as a family we go out walking.  I’m also very involved in the local football team, Horndean Hawks, as my son plays for them.  This takes up most Sundays with matches and training during the week.

Marion Horrocks - Teacher Governor

It is a pleasure to serve as a Teacher-Governor at Horndean Infant School as I started my teaching career here in 1980 and have now returned after 27 years! I believe that the school provides the best education for our children and my own three sons have all attended and benefited from the experience. I feel that I can contribute to the Board of Governors based on my experiences both as a teacher and a parent.

As my children are now ‘grown  up’, and two of them having left home, I am now finding some extra time to devote to keeping fit and walking with my husband. I also enjoy reading when I can find the time and going to the theatre and concerts.
Mark Sheppard - Community Governor

I have been a Community Governor since September 2008; previously, I had been on the school's PTA for 6 years, the last two years as chairman. Both my children have now been through the Infant School (2002-2008) and have benefited from the excellent and dedicated education they received from the teaching staff, as well as the friendly environment in which they began their educational years.

I now wish to help in the future direction of the school so that other children can also benefit from this fantastic school.

In my spare time (what little there is of it), I enjoy cooking and being outdoors; after that, and if there's an time left, I enjoy reading.
Mark Mears - Parent Governor

I became a parent governor at HIS to ensure that I could play a large part in my child's education and so that I could give something back in return for the incredible effort that the school puts in to it.  I am proud to be a parent governor and hope that the small role that I can play in supporting the school will help to ensure that HIS continues to be an 'outstanding' place to learn..

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and play as many different sports as possible.
Alison Smith - Governor

I was very proud to be elected parent governor. I believe that all children are entitled to the best start in life and at Horndean Infant School our kids do get the very best start. I wanted to be able to contribute to the future of our school  and to assist the fabulous team of fellow governors, Head, teachers, support staff and an outstanding PTA. Our kids are privileged to be a part of the best school.

My eldest boy has just moved over to junior school and my twins are flourishing in year 1.   Healthy and happy Horndean Infants.
